Chicken Korma Feast!

Here’s what the guests at The Star enjoyed last Tuesday night!  This is the Chicken Korma with fragrant Pilau Rice, accompanied by Chana Dhal, Saag Aloo, Papadoms and relishes and a very welcome glass of Rosé!  Other guests went for the Lamb Jalfrezi, Chicken Tikka Masala or Vegetable Curry.

A taste of Scotland

Great news!  It looks as if I’ll be doing a special supper for Burns Night (25th January) at the Star Inn in Périgueux.  More information nearer the time, but if it comes off, there’ll be a whisky-tasting and a Scots-themed feast, complete with Haggis and other feisty flavours from across the border.

December Quiz Supper

My monthly Quiz Supper takes place at the Etang du Coucou, 24390 Hautefort at 7.30pm on Tuesday, 7th December.  This month I’m cooking a White Pork and Wild Mushroom Stew, followed by Chocolate Cake with Warm Cherry Sauce and Crème Fraîche.  We’ll start with nibbles, the quiz this month is provided by last month’s winners, the Would Bes and it’s all for €12.50 per head.  If you’d like to take part, and these events are always great fun, it’s best to have a team of 4 – 6 people, though everyone’s very welcoming if you’d like to tag on to an existing team.  Please contact me on 05.53.05.28.47 or email me on lagermenie@yahoo.co.uk or leave a comment on this post – but please do it by Sunday 5th December!

Star success!

My first Curry Night at the Star Inn in Périgueux last Tuesday was a great success. Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Jalfrezi were the favourite choices, but I also did a Vegetable Curry and Chicken Korma, with loads of Papadoms to start and four side dishes. Lots of hard work, but the feedback from  the 35 customers was extremely rewarding – “an Indian chef would have been proud of this food”; “when’s the next one, we want to book now” – so it all seems worth it. Thanks to Mike and Bev for giving me the opportunity. Thinking of a Thai Night for the next one!

Hello world!

Hi.  My name is Julie Harris and I’m a cook.  More accurately, because I live and work in the Dordogne, I’m a “traiteuse à domicile”, which means a caterer who cooks in people’s homes and other kitchens.

I have owned a pub, a restaurant, a tea-rooms and two delicatessens in England, but now I cater for events and gîte-visitors in this beautiful area of France.  I cook any cuisine people want – I’ve done English, French, Chinese, Swedish, Scottish (especially on Burns Nights!) and many others – but, as you might guess, I specialise in curry: Indian, Thai, Vietnamese or Indonesian.
